Spooky Freebie "Dead Words Eulogy: A Word Workshop"

Do your students use simple language in their writing? Workshop with WORDS this spooky season! Teachers, choose a list of words that you NEVER want to see students use in their writing again. These are now "dead words." Students will research the "dead word" and create a headstone for that word. 
 
Differentiate by having students choose their word at random, assigning students certain words, allowing them to decide a word or phrase that is now "dead" to them, or add your own to the teacher list!
 
For example, my 10th graders are NEVER allowed to use the phrase "This means that" anymore! Buuuuut when students are learning to write of course this is an acceptable phrase!
